A Letter Home

HANDWRITTEN HISTORIES OF THE IRISH IN AMERICA

A Letter Home is a beautiful, illustrated book featuring over sixty letters – short and long – written by Irish emigrants to North America from the early 1800s to the mid-1900s. Drawn from the Imirce collection at the University of Galway, these carefully selected letters give heartrending insight into both the experience of Irish emigrants and their understanding of emigration. Their words carried across the Atlantic – of love and loss, hope and disappointment, the everyday and momentous – linger long in the mind and give pause for thought.

A Letter Home is testament to the ties that distance could never break.
